The Gift of Waking Up Today: Gratitude for the Summer Solstice and Summers Past
It's a great day to be alive.
By the 4th of July, summer is halfway over.
At least that's what my mother used to say. I'd get annoyed because school had just finished, and here she was prematurely forecasting the end of my summer vacation. Talk about rushing things!
In retrospect, maybe my mother wasn't that far off base. As an adult, she may have been considering the fleeting nature of time.
The summer solstice is today, meaning it's the year's longest day. Tomorrow, the length of daylight will begin to decrease ever so slightly. We probably won’t notice the shorter days until the end of August when the smell of autumn is in the air.
The summer solstice reminds me the summer season of life is behind me, and my days on this side of the dirt are getting shorter. I can get mad about it or accept it and make the best use of what's left.
If you woke up this morning, be grateful for today and the precious time you’ve already lived. As Sadhguru says, there are 1,000,000 who did not wake up today.
I have not checked the accuracy of his numbers, but embrace his words in the spirit in which he said them.
Tomorrow is not promised.
You are lucky to be alive today.
Go and make the best of it.
Happy Summer, friends.
Very good reminder! Thank you!
I am a fan of Sadhguru and his wisdom. He has his finger on people’s pulse and know how to deliver his message so that it cut through the noise and get to us. A brilliant man. Thanks for reminding me his message.
